The center systematically collects and preserves microorganisms including bacteria, archaea, fungi and their genetic materials from different environments. Research areas include microbial diversity, phylogenetics and communities, and biology of selected model microbes. The center also screens microorganisms with special functions or products that potentially applicable to industry, agriculture, medicine, bio-energy production and environmental protection.
