The aim of the Center for Extremophiles is to understand and utilize extremophiles. Main research areas include ecology and biodiversity of extremophiles, physiological mechanisms of extremophiles¡¯ adaptation to extreme conditions, discovery and application of extremozymes and other products from extremophiles. Research had been conducted to develop new sampling, isolating, culturing, and molecular manipulating techniques to elucidate biodiversity and genetic diversity of extreme environments, to reveal extremophilic characteristics and underlying mechanisms from the molecular physiological perspective, and to discover new products, such as extremozymes, and explore their applicable protential. |
