Center for Molecular Virology

We have been involved in understanding the evolution and pathogenesis of the emerging or re-emerging viruses, especially those zoonotic viruses, the molecular mechanisms of interspecies transmission of viral pathogens, and interactions between virus and host cells. Our research focuses on viral structural proteins interacting with the surface receptors and intracellular factors between host cells, and designs of small molecules to block such interactions as antiviral drugs. We are also interested in determining the molecular evolution of geographic distribution, ecological changes, and other risk factors on the viral evolution, route of transmission of viral pathogens, and affected host range for establishment of the surveillance system to monitor and detect the emerging pathogens in domestic, wildlife animals and humans.
