Research is focused on the basic studies of some important pathogenic organisms, especially emerging and re-emerging pathogens (viruses nad bacteria) in order to provide the theoretic base on clinical treatment and prevention, development of therapeutic drugs and vaccines. Viruses we are working on include hepatitis B/C virus, HIV, SARS-Cov, avian influenza virus, west nile virus, etc. In the research field of molecular and cellular immunology, T-cell immunity (antigen presentation etc.) and innate immunity, especially the possible mechanism of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) herbs in stimulating innate immunity, are emphasized. Pathogenesis and molecular immunity of tumors and some important pathogenic bacteria are studied in the institute as well.
